SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS RECORDED AT 09:30 hrs M.S.T: During the past (24) hours, Southwest monsoon has advanced into the Southern Myanmar areas, Andaman sea and Southeast Bay of Bengal. Rain or thundershowers have been widespread in Taninthayi Region, fairly widespread in Upper Sagaing Region, Kachin and Mon States, scattered in Mandalay, Yangon and Ayeyarwady Regions, Shan and Kayin States and isolated in the remaining Regions and States with isolated heavy falls in Mandalay Region. Day temperatures were (3°C) above May average temperatures in Magway, Bago and Taninthayi Regions, Rakhine State and about May average temperatures in the remaining Regions and States. The significant day temperatures were (43°C) in Chauk and (42°C) each in Magway and Aunglan. The noteworthy amounts of rainfall recorded were Paung (2.40)inches, Meikhtila (1.49)inches, Mawlaik (0.98)inch, Pakokku (0.94) inch and Launglon (0.83) inches.
BAY INFERENCE: Monsoon is moderate in the Andaman Sea and Southeast Bay and weather is partly cloudy to cloudy elsewhere in the Bay of Bengal.
FORECAST VALID UNTIL EVENING OF THE 18th May, 2015: Rain or thundershowers will be isolated in Magway Region, scattered in Lower Sagaing and Mandalay Regions, Shan, Chin, Kayah and Rakhine States, fairly widespread in Upper Sagaing, Bago, Yangon and Ayeyarwady Regions, Kachin and Kayin States and widespread in the remaining Regions and States. Degree of certainty is (80%).
STATE OF THE SEA: Squalls with moderate to rough sea are likely at times off and along Myanmar Coasts. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach (35) m.p.h.
OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: Continuation of thundery activities in the Deltaic areas.
